Article Summary
Money is not the root of all evil. It is not
the root of all happiness either.
When we are focussed exclusively on making
money we are truly seeking freedoms. We expect a bigger cash flow will provide
special freedom and immunity to life’s pressures.
Money is not the ultimate way to freedom. There
are other paths towards enriching life and gaining fulfilment without all the
riches. There are three ways in particular that have tremendous positive
influence on daily life:
Downsize
Clutter can be a killer of creativity.
Downsizing not only renews our living space, but releases us from worrying
about how to manage the clutter.
Live a minimalist lifestyle
Minimalist lifestyle helps slowing down the
re-accumulation of stuff. Living a ‘less is more’ mindset also instils a
feeling that whether money is available or not, a person can not only survive but thrive on very little.
Do an annual ‘checking in’; putting everything
extra in one of two categories, such as sentimental and non-sentimental. Try as
hard as possible to minimise the former and get rid of the latter.
Respect yourself
Taking care of and respecting one’s self lead
to significant freedoms. This may mean
putting up certain boundaries like not staying out too late, or scheduling time
for work and play to achieve a healthy balance.
It also includes doing things like eating
well, exercising, getting back in touch with old friends and positive
influences from the past, and improving current relationships.
The goal should be to live an overall
healthier lifestyle and for achieving it you don’t need much money.
